Authoritative forecasts consistently project that electricity use by U.S. data centers themselves is likely to roughly double or more by 2030, but they do not project that this will *double total U.S. electricity consumption*; instead, they estimate data centers will rise from about 3–4.5% of U.S. demand today to roughly 8–12% (or at most the low-to-mid teens) by 2030, implying a large increase in data center share and demand but not a doubling of nationwide electricity use.
