Multiple recent reports and studies indicate that climate change–driven rising temperatures, heatwaves, and associated drought in African regions such as the Horn of Africa, Sahel, North Africa, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, and Ethiopia are causing heat stress, increased mortality, reduced productivity, and broader health problems in camels, meaning they are indeed suffering under these extreme heat conditions, even though camels remain relatively more heat-tolerant than other livestock.

Some research emphasizes camels’ strong biological resilience and finds that aggregate climatic variables alone are not statistically strong predictors of mortality, suggesting that management practices and other non-climatic factors also play important roles.[10] However, this does not dispute that extreme heat and drought conditions associated with climate change are harming camels’ health and productivity; it mainly nuances the strength and directness of the climate–mortality linkage.
